The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Teaser Trailer has landed and fans are already working into a frenzy over what’s almost certain to be this years biggest release.

Much like the Twilight series, The Hunger Games has a die-hard following of loyal fans that have helped the previous two films generate over $1billion at the worldwide box office. Since the trailers release it’s been viewed over 10 million times on YouTube, although not all fans were impressed with its offerings, as many have been more than vocal in pointing out the absence of franchise star, Jennifer Lawrence.

As one of the biggest stars in the world, Lawrence, 23, is without a doubt one of the biggest pulling points for audiences, and her exclusion from the first teaser trailer will certainly have disappointed her vast fan base, who are keen to see their heroine in action again as Capital rebel, Katnis Everdeen – yer with the films release imminent, fans won’t have to wait too long for the first official trailer release.

2014 already looks set to be an incredible year for Lawrence, with the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past having grossed over $800 million worldwide, Lionsgate, the studio behind The Hunger Games franchise, will certainly be expecting their star to smash a couple of box-office records.

It’s no surprise that Bond 24 director, Sam Mendes, would have the former WWE wrestler on his list of suitable bad guys, due to his larger-than-life screen presence as Drax in this years box-office phenomenon, Guardians of the Galaxy.

As the sequel to Skyfall (2012), the current title holder for the UK’s highest grossing film of all time, Bond 24 reunites director Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig, along with co-stars Ralph FiennesNaomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw, is almost certain to be another adrenaline-fueled spectacle.

The Fantastic Four – Trailer

The first official trailer for the long-awaited Fantastic Four reboot has landed and it looks set to be another gargantuan hit for studio giant Marvel.

One thing that first came to mind when news of this film first surfaced, was the unexpected cast lineup including Jamie BellKate MaraMiles Teller and Michael B. JordanThe Fantastic Four has until recently been known for it’s relatively mature cast of characters, with the last series of films, The Fantastic Four (2005) and The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) starring The Shield‘s Michael Chiklis who at the time was in his early forties.

This rein-visioning of The Fantastic Four story will also prove to be a big milestone in not only Marvel‘s history, but in comic book history in general, when Michael B. Jordan hits screens as pyro-extraordinaire Jonny Storm, who until now has been a portrayed as a young white man – it’s a great stepping stone to the possibilities of other famous superheroes adaptin and changing, like news of a female Thor one day in the not so distant future.

One things for certain though, Marvel‘s box-office dominance clearly knows no bounds as the studio cements itself as the most successful movie studio in history.

The Fantastic Four land in cinemas worldwide on August 6, 2015.

Game of Thrones Season 5 Gets Release Date

It’s the news all GoT fans have been waiting for for months – Game of Thrones season 5 has been given an official release date for both the UK and US. Sky Atlantic will broadcast the first episode of the new season on Monday April 13, just one day after it’s airing in the US.

Adapted from George R.R. Martin‘s best-selling fantasy series, Game of Thrones has quickly become the most popular TV series in the world, gathering millions of viewers every week in the UK alone, with it’s detailed, complex and unquestionably gruesome storylines.

Despite it’s popularity, Game of Thrones and it’s predominantly British cast, have seen somewhat of a slump in awards representation recently, with the fantasy series’ cast failing to receive a single nomination at this years prestigious Golden Globe awards – surprising to say the least considering it’s outstanding cast including the likes of Peter DinklageLena Headey and Emilia Clarke.

Regardless of it’s awards snub this year, there’s no doubt that Game of Thrones is going to continue it’s TV dominance this year as it sets to push the boundaries of sex, violence, and epic storylines.

Season 5 aires in the UK on Monday, April 13 at 10pm on Sky Atlantic. View the season promo below.

Cinema admissions hit 20-year low in 2014

Hollywood certainly wasn’t short of money-making blockbusters this year, with hits such as Interstellar (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) gracing the big-screen, but even Marvel‘s contribution couldn’t save us from a ‘cinema recession’.

Figures recently published by The Hollywood Reporter show that box-office admissions were down 5% from 2013, with only 1.26 billion tickets being sold in 2014.

Now I know that may seem like a lot, but actually it’s not, considering admissions in 2002 were at an all-time high of 1.57 billion.

Perhaps when you take into account the advances in popularity of online streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, as well as the continued rise in cinema ticket prices, it’s probably not that surprising. Take the recent trouble with Sony Pictures and their controversial film The Interview(2014), which found itself outcasted by almost every major US cinema chain, resulting in Sony releasing the film online.

None-the-less, Hollywood is turning a nice little profit at the end of the day, thanks largely in part to Marvel Studios.

2014 was an incredible year for Hollywood‘s biggest studio, with three massive blockbuster cinema releases including Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and the biggest hit of the year, Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) – combined, the money-spinners grossed over $2.2 billion worldwide.

To put that another way, Marvel Studios grossed around 20% of North America’s total cinema revenue, which stands at just over $10 billion.

With another three blockbuster set for release this year (2015), including a Fantastic Four reboot, Ant-Man (2015) and Marvel’s franchise heavyweight, Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Marvel could once again find itself at the front of the pack in Hollywood.

All in all 2015 could prove to be the year cinema revenue picks up again, with a host of world-class blockbusters, including Star Wars: The Force AwakensJurassic World and American Sniper, all scheduled for release this year.

The Interview Makes $18 Million Online

The controversy surrounding Sony Pictures latest release, The Interview (2014), has been nothing short of spectacular considering the global-political ramifications it’s caused between the US and North Korea.

Written and directed by it’s star Seth Rogen, The Interview is a fictitious story about two American journalists who, after landing an unexpected interview with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, are recruited by the CIA for an assassination mission in the capital Pyongyang.

Since it’s release last week, The Interview, despite being pulled from almost every major US cinema, has managed to gross over $20 million dollars so far, mostly thanks to advancements in legitimate online streaming and download services such as YouTube, Google Play, and Sony’s own streaming service.

The figure for online sales currently stands at just over $18 million (as of 29 Dec ’14), with a further $2 million coming from a limited number of independent cinema’s who, despite the threats made against them by North Korea, decided to go ahead with screenings.

There’s no denying The Interview has become the most publicized film release of all time, due largely in part to the significant hack on Sony’s security systems by North Korea in retaliation for the films existence depicting the assassination of their leader, not to mention the serious threats made against any US cinemas that showed the controversial comedy.

With a $44 million budget, on top of the millions of dollars spent on Marketing, it’s still not clear whether or not the film will turn a profit – one thing is certain though, Hollywood will have to start taking online releases seriously as films continue to push the boundaries of what’s deemed socially and politically acceptable.

Ghostbusters 3 Set For An All-Female Cast

News, rumours, and cast predictions have been circulating the internet at increasing speed during 2014 in regards to an all-female reboot of the cult-classic, Ghostbusters (1984).

Despite the yet untitled reboot still in a very early pre-production phase, Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, who’s likely to take over the directors chair from Ivan Reitman, has continued to fuel speculation as to the potential cast.

Rumours of a third Ghostbusters film starting to emerge back in 2012, but when news broke earlier this year on the sad passing of Harold Ramis, co-writer and star of Ghostbusters 1 & 2, people started to question how the franchise could continue on without him – not to mention whether it’s stars Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd would want to.

Now however it seems an all-female cast in Ghostbusters 3 could be a reality, with Bill Murraylending his support to the idea, recently telling thestar.com“I’m fine with it. I would go to that movie, and they’d probably have better outfits, too”.

Two names currently in the running to don the famous overalls are Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiigand Melissa McCarthy, who worked with Paul Feig on the 2011 Oscar-nominated comedy. Other names linked with the film include Hollywood sweethearts Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stonewho, given their recent inclusion on Forbes 10 ‘Most Bankable Stars’ list, could prove to be favorites considering their ability to generate high box-office revenue.
