A fourth solo Iron Man film and the return of our favourite ‘billionaire, playboy, philanthropist’?…please say it’s so RDJ.
The Marvel universe has exploded over the last couple of years into the biggest film market in history. Billions of dollars in box-office revenue, more merchandise than we the public can handle, and a cast of Hollywood A-lister’s that may actually be superhero’s…especially if their power is filling cinema seats.
Yet despite movie after movie, one man has emerged the clear leader and star of this film universe – and that man is Robert Downey Jr.
Despite Mr Downey Jr still firmly entwined in the Marvel world, with his next outing as Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) coming in the form of the Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, the follow up to the multibillion dollar box-office hit The Avengers (2012), most of us were battling to put the sad news that Iron Man 3 would be RDJ’s last solo outing as Iron Man.
But it appears that our prayers have been answered, courtesy of everyone’s favourite talkshow host, Ellen DeGeneres.
During a recent taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, host Ellen asked RDJ the one question we’ve all been wanting to ask – “will there be a fourth Iron Man film?“
Despite the somewhat brief answer, Downey Jr was surprisingly upfront, telling Ellen; “I know there’s going to be a bunch more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best, and we’re in the middle of negotiations“.
Not ready to give up on a potential exclusive, she quickly interrupted, “So, yes“…to which Downey Jr responded. “Okay, yes“.
